Hornsbygaine with Moira

Hornsbygaine 9 February 2014

On the 9 February 2014 Daddy and I went on a Rogaine which was called the Hornsbygaine. It took less than 1 hour to drive there and it was very misty before the start. During the Rogaine it got very hot maybe more than 36 degrees centigrade. Daddy had to refill my drink bottle 5 times we used 2 taps in the parks and spare water daddy had.

When we were at the second water stop I put water in my hat and then put it on my head. I wished we had water bombs.

The Hash house was in a car park under a sports centre.

We planned to walk a big loop but at the briefing they said that the water stream we were planning to go down was tricky and you should avoid it if you had children so we quickly came up with a different plan to follow a stream which was parallel to the tricky stream. These photos were at the briefing start.

We started off in a big group but people crossed roads and headed off in different directions so it wasn't so crowded.

We are glad we didn't run to CP21 as there was a big queue about half way down the cricket pitch's fence and we would have had to wait anyway!

CP22 was at a toilet block. We found we could cut through a park in to the bush to get to CP 103 where we got 100 points. Then we went up along the Great North Walk to CP 93, the next one was planned to be 84 but we cut this out because it was too steep and it was getting very hot.

This is me at Check Point 60.

Then we went to CP 60 and 75, after 75 we had our first lunch break. When we were walking down the path we spotted some rocks that looked like it would be a nice place to stop and eat.

After lunch we went to CP92 and CP44 before going back onto streets and a park for CP81. Where we had something to eat and filled up our water and had a long break as it was getting hotter. We had to go through some trees to get through the back of the park and that was also where checkpoint 81 was.

After our break we went to CP82 that was back in the bush at the bottom of some stairs and I saw a sign that said the Great North Walk link up track, which was very useful for our navigation. We went to 24 and then up a very steep hill to get to CP 102 (another 100 points).

This was CP 102 there was a nice view over the trees.

After this we went to CP23 where we got more water and to CP 66. This is me on a rock near CP 66 and this is a tree also near CP 66. When I was walking along I saw a tree which had a root which looked it was bleeding like the tree below.

At the end we beeped our watches to stop them and then went into the Hash House. Me and Daddy had sausage sandwiches, daddy had 2 and I had 1. After that we tried fruit and cake and lots of other stuff.

I enjoyed the Rogaine, we walked 15km in 5hours 35 minutes and got 850 points, we went to 13 checkpoints. This is our map below. (CP - Checkpoint). Thank you to the people who organised this Rogaine.

The next event is a 3hr Minigaine on 30th March at Boronia Park - see you there!
